Online customers needed an efficient means to print
presentation quality reports based on the on-line web pages.
Since web browsers are not particularly good at printing web
pages that use frames Nasdaq needed another way to solve the
problem.
DataNaut worked with Microsoft and Microsoft Solution Provider Plural to develop a high-speed, presentation quality reporting system integrated with Nasdaq Online. The web-based system was based on Microsoft tools and technologies and dynamically generated Excel spreadsheets containing critical financial data.

presentation-quality, hard-copy versions of each Nasdaq Online
web page formatted as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The
Nasdaq Online report generation system can generate over 5,000
Excel reports per hour to support the demands of the Nasdaq
Online community. The reports are generated real-time and can
be downloaded or emailed to the requestor via an automated
delivery system.
Value
Architected and developed by DataNaut and Plural the system
is implemented with COM components, Microsoft Internet
Information Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange
and Microsoft Excel. Building on existing Microsoft tools and technologies resulted in significant cost and time savings when developing the system. Without these tools the team would have had to build many core system capabilties from scratch resulting more development costs and system complexity.

The Nasdaq Online report generation
system enabled the NASD to save millions of dollars in printing costs. In addition to saving costs the system offered Nasdaq Online users presentation reports with real-time data. This solution was so unique that it was
demonstrated at a Microsoft professional developer conference
and is nominated for the Microsoft Solution of the Year.
