DataNaut Selected to Develop a Cross-Agency Government-Information Sharing Infrastructure to Aid in the Global Battle Against Terrorism.

In collaborative efforts between the US Department of State and the Government of Columbia, DataNaut will provide expertise and innovation in a custom information technology solution to empower government agencies in their fight against terrorism.

Washington, DC - October 15, 2003

DataNaut, LLC experts in the innovation and development of cost-effective custom information technology solutions announced today that they have been awarded an 18 month contract to work in conjunction with the US Department of State and the network services provider, Network Designs Inc, to support the design, development and successful implementation of a cross-agency Government-Information Sharing Infrastructure system.
The system will be developed in a collaborative effort between the United States and the Colombian government, to bolster and facilitate a swift and cooperative cross-agency intelligence program in Colombia to capture, analyze, manage, track and share investigations and information, necessary for security enforcement and containment. The networked database system will help govern the flow of information and manifest best-practices, process-driven case management, while fostering cooperative relationships among government and civilian law enforcement agencies.

The cornerstone of the system will be a telecommunications network that connects over 40 locations, protected using the latest encryption technologies and industry standard public key infrastructure. Information captured and managed in the system will be run against powerful, language-independent analytical tools including GIS (Geographical Information System) to map locations, mathematics to mine information and events, and state-of-the-art visualization to render data into visual presentations. Utilizing these technologies and specialized algorithms, users will be able to identify patterns and relationships within large amounts of seemingly unrelated data, in ways not previously possible.

Web-based system applications to be included in the system will utilize open-source technologies such as Linux, Apache, OpenSSL and Java, yielding a solution toolbox that can be reused for a multitude of homeland security and international security efforts that also require a government-wide system of information gathering and sharing.

DataNaut CEO, Mark Snuffin said, "It is imperative that government and civilian agencies across the globe quickly gain the ability to swiftly and effectively communicate with one another, using best-practice case management processes, in order to eradicate terrorism.” He continued, “Our solution is based on open-source alternatives, enabling countries faced with budgetary challenges to obtain and maintain this kind of mission critical, high quality information infrastructure with a low total cost of ownership. The DataNaut team is very proud to be chosen for this effort and is eager to put forth our extensive experience in developing complex information technology solutions for the benefit of homeland security and the global fight against terrorism."

End-to-end, the system will include software that integrates the latest technologies, intelligence assessments and methodologies used in the United States, an industry-standard IT platform and a communications network that will enable the user community to collaborate and share information within a highly secure environment.
